Dunki is a hilarious and heartwarming saga of a perilous journey, borders, friendships, nostalgia for home, and love that towers above it all.
Present day in London Manu elopes from the hospital with a dream of returning to India. She meets her lawyer Puru Patel who tells her it’s not possible, it’s when she asks him to connect with Hardy whom she last saw twenty-five years back. Manu manages to connect with Hardy and asks him to meet in Dubai accompanying her are two friends Baggu and Balli who share the same dream. Flashback reveals that Manu, Baggu, and Balli lived in a small town in Punjab and wanted to work in London to support their families. Once Hardy arrives in their village to return a tape recorder to Manu’s brother who had saved his life but finds he passed away. Hardy decides to stay in the village and helps the trio. They start to learn English from Geetu Gulati where they meet Suki who wants to go to London to get back his lover whose abused by her husband. During the visa interview, only Balli manages to clear and reach London. This does not go well with Suki who abuses Gulati who then decides to send him illegally to London via Dunki. But Suki commits suicide after he gets the news that his lover did the same as he failed to clear the visa interview. Hardy then decides that be it anything he along with Manu and Baggu will go to London via Dunki. But upon reaching they see a different London which they never imagined.

Dunki (2023) Hindi: Dunki presents a compelling story that serves as its core attraction, depicting the aspirations of four friends from a Punjab village yearning to reach England. Their journey, hindered by the lack of visas and tickets, becomes a humorous yet touching narrative of enduring friendship, homeland nostalgia, and overarching love. Shah Rukh Khan delivers a commendable performance, surpassing his recent roles in ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan.’ However, his dominating presence occasionally overshadows the other characters, who themselves have significant stories to tell. This imbalance highlights a need for more depth in Khan’s portrayal. The movie excels in conveying a powerful message through effective storytelling. Yet, its approach to musical elements could be refined. The abrupt dance sequences feel out of place and disrupt the narrative flow, often leading viewers to disengage and resort to browsing on their phones.
