Satan's Slaves (2017) Movie Review

The first word that comes to mind with this movie is: Wow. Just wow. It’s an expertly crafted chiller from Indonesian director Joko Anwar. He is in complete control and can get big-time scares out of even the most subtle things.

It has a very slow pace, but the scares are built up to perfectly, and in between them, we have some nice character built in a film that’s about mourning. Some of the character stuff is sort of cliched and almost soap opera-y, but there is some good stuff as well.

I really, really want to see more movies like this. I don’t know if that means more Indonesian movies, more Indonesian horror movies, or more movies by director Joko Anwar. But when the nearest comparison I have is to Ari Aster’s Hereditary, you know something is right.
